Sofía Quintana, MSc Pelvic Physiotherapist & Clinical Hypnotherapist

I am a pelvic physiotherapist with over 13 years of experience, practicing in the Netherlands and registered at MSc level. I specialize in the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction throughout the lifespan, with a particular focus on pelvic pain, both pregnancy-related and chronic.

My (short) story I began this pelvic physio journey through my own first pregnancy, and it has since developed into a sustained professional focus. I worked for several years alongside Cecile Rost, a pioneer in pelvic girdle pain management, which shaped my approach to pregnancy-related complaints. My work later expanded to include chronic pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction. And as time goes by (and my age goes up) my interests are shifting towards the changes that come with (peri)menopause in the female body.

I see learning as a lifelong job. I’m interested in a wide range of subjects (my background is quite different from physical therapy), but most of them point to human physiology and its interaction with the mind. I’m fascinated by our complexity, but at the same time familiar with the simplicity of our patterns.

I have completed countless courses/trainings in pain science and management, abdominopelvic dysfunction and rehabilitation. I also attend different congresses/symposiums each year to stay up to date with current scientific developments in the field.

I speak English, Dutch and Spanish fluently. I understand French fully but my fluency is rusty. I’m a native Spanish speaker.

My approach The pelvis is part of an interconnected system and it needs to be treated as such. Recovery requires a broader, integrative view of health, including the roles that past (traumatic) experiences, hormones, diet, movement, and sleep play in it. Pelvic physiotherapy is a piece of the puzzle, but I’m well aware is not the main. Overtime I trained as a dietician (I completed a Master’s degree in Nutrition in 2014), a specialist in women’s health (Women’s Hormonal Health & Nutrition postgraduate degree in 2023) and I’m in the process of becoming a menopause consultant. I’m still centered in Pelvic physiotherapy at the practice, but I think it’s fundamental to be able to see women’s health from every angle to get better results, and to refer you to the most adequate specialist when physiotherapy is insufficient.

My pelvic physiotherapy practice is primarily oriented toward women’s health, although I’m trained to treat men with pelvic complaints and I often do.

An appointment with me I listen, a lot, but I also talk and explain (a lot). I believe that getting a proper diagnosis and enough information about the problem you’re facing is 50% of the solution. I’m here to help you navigate the issue with all my knowledge and experience, but also with compassion and humility, knowing full well that I can’t help everyone nor solve everything. The pelvis is a vulnerable area, and I’m honoured that a patient (unlike most of my peers I dislike the word client) would allow me to access such an intimate part of themselves. Every examination and treatment is done with the utmost professionalism and only with your full explicit consent.

Hypnotherapy After years of clinical observation I got to a simple but profound conclusion: persistent pelvic pain and tension cannot be effectively addressed without regulating the nervous system, and pelvic physiotherapy alone fails to do so more often than not. And so decided to train as a clinical hypnotherapist to try and bridge that gap.

Hypnotherapy provides a structured and evidence-informed method to support this process, complementing physical rehabilitation. Hypnosis is a quick and empowering tool to identify and modify ingrained stress coping mechanisms. It gives you a sense of control over your own body and complaints that can be simple but yet life changing. I know it was for me.

Lotte Kuipers
Fysiotherapist & Floor®-Fysio

I am Lotte Kuipers, physiotherapist since 2016 and mother of Jonas and Oliver. Sports have always been my thing, but during and especially after my pregnancies I also noticed how taxing it can be for the body. Since the birth of Jonas, I have increasingly delved into the special process of being pregnant and recovering afterwards.

With Fysio Mamalot I help (expectant) mothers to keep moving in a responsible way - during pregnancy and in the period afterwards. I do this with a lot of love and dedication. I specialized in exercise during and after pregnancy and recently became a Floor®-Physio.

You can now also contact me directly for a Pregnancy or Mama Massage.

A pelvic physio appointment is very uself for diagnosis, manual treatment and targeted exercises, but what makes a long term difference whatever your goal is proper training. Getting stronger and improving your condition is as important or more for recovery as a well crafted pelvic floor muscle training program.

Exercise during pregnancy can improve not only your health, but also your baby’s health, delivery outcomes and postpartum recovery. In the postpartum phase it can help you cope with the new demands placed on your body, and to recover safely from pregnancy and childbirth. During perimenopause and menopause it’s a safe and effective way to improve symptoms and avoid the long term consequences of this life change, fighting sarcopenia, osteoporosis and cardiovascular health decline.

Besides our very own trainer and FloorFysio Lotte Kuipers, the trainers below are our go-to movement specialists, knowledgeable, realiable and caring professionals. We discuss cases, exchange knowledge and work hand in had to give you the best possible results. Our work as physios would not be as useful without the amazing work these trainers do to get you back to moving in a safe, fun and effective way.
